I’ve been taking lessons from Nick for several months now. Really cool guy and an awesome musucian. His book offers very down-to-earth and fun way to enter the world of guitar playing.

Guitar is the third instrument I’ve taken up as an adult, and found this method book and accompanying CD very good and thorough. A few of the tracks on the CD are a little fast for beginners, but you can get players that will slow them down.

I have used this book with number of adult students as well as high schoolers who want to learn the basics about playing the guitar. This book offers a great foundation for someone that has never played before. If you or a student has played before and you want a book I’d suggest “I Used to Play Guitar.” This book skips the folk melodies that are prominent in many other methods. The basics of a wide variety of styles and techniques are covered.

I’m currently using this book to learn guitar from scratch. It’s really well paced. Each lesson is challenging, but not impossible by any means. My only criticism is that I wish the examples included familar songs. That would make practice much more fun. Also, there’s a typo on page 68.

Before I picked up this book, I knew nothing about guitars. After finishing it, I can now play the basic riffs to a lot of my favorite songs. The great thing is that it gets you playing and understanding chords really fast. If you want to learn sheet music notation or just use tabs that make it easy for anyone to start playing (like me), I definitely recommend starting with this book. It starts out simple but keeps pushing you to add together everything you’ve learned. Before you know it you’re playing songs you’ve heard for years.
